Prototype Coordinator / Analyst Reports to:
Product Engineering Manager Summary &
Responsibilities:
The Prototype Coordinator / Analyst, will work closely with engineering and production to ensure prototypes are created in an efficient and timely manner.
Will help determine final product specs based on fabrication costs, production issues, quality, and design requirements.
Make sure all required parts are ordered correctly and arrive on time.
The PT Coordinator will operate and maintain the Engineering Prototype Shop ensuring that the shop is kept clean, organized, operational, and safe.
Create sales orders and production orders Plan, manage, and build working prototypes based on design specifications Make sure all drawings and dxf's are current and distributed to the correct work-center Oversee the prototype production process to evaluate any engineering / design issues, efficiency, and practicality of all phases of production.
Mark-up (redline) drawings for suggested design changes to help facilitate quicker or more efficient fabrication Be able to open parts and assemblies in SolidWorks to verify fitment and dimensions Break down components into raw materials using SAP Accurately calculate number of components required to complete the assembly.
This will require a thorough understanding of BOM's Communicate production issues and timeline of completion with sales and engineering Will be responsible for final inspection and packaging of prototypes.
This includes checking physical dimensions against the detailed drawings (component form, fit, function) paint quality, weld quality, and making sure final packaging is done properly to help ensure the product is not damaged in transit Perform any required touchup for final product including grinding and painting (possibly includes touchup welds depending on experience) Transport or oversee internal transportation of parts between various stations or work centers Assist in product load testing Assemble Madix fixtures for testing and quality checks Provide maintenance on equipment and tools used in the prototype shop, keeping all equipment in good condition and working order.
Perform a variety of maintenance duties including rough carpentry and basic equipment repairs Keep the prototype shop clean and organized at all times Observe and enforce Madix safety policies and procedures at all times Occasional travel may be required to various plant locations or field installations Required Job Skills:
Must be able to read a tape measure and calipers Must be able to perform basic math calculations Must have experience using basic shop tools Read, understand, and evaluate technical drawings Understand weld symbols Drive a forklift Good organizational and communication skills Ability to communicate across multiple groups and levels within the company Ability to multitask and work several projects simultaneously Good problem-solving skills Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, SolidWorks experience is a plus SAP experience is a plus Understanding industrial logistics is a plus Welding experience is a plus Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes and strength of materials is a plus Understanding of basic engineering principles is a plus Physical Requirements:

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) (Associate degree in Mechanical Design, related field, or equivalent experience preferred) Future:
As part of the Product Engineering team, this person will also eventually be responsible for:
> Working on basic drawing corrections (PCR's, new size workflows, and prototype design) > Creating product drawings using SolidWorks.
This will include modeling parts, assemblies, detailed part drawings, top level assembly drawings, and constructing BOM's for each assembly.
This person will work with other engineers and designers to create concept renderings, refine existing designs, and help develop manufacturing drawings for new products.
